1. What is poetry? Based on your opinion

2. What are genres of English Poetry? give an example of each genres

3. What are genres of Indonesian Poetry? give an example of each genres

Answer :

1. In my opinion poetry is written art form that contains language with quality aesthetics and gas deep meaning. And poetry cab be a outpouring of someone's heart and written in beautiful words.

2. genres of English poetry are lyric,narrative, and dramatic.

*Lyric 

The lyrics of the genres are especially song-like and emotional. Sonnets and odes are examples of lyrical poetry. Lyric poetry doesn't always tell a story but focuses more on the author's more personal emotions, attitudes, and state of mind.

*Narrative

A narrative poetry tells a story. Typically, these can be read aloud and will maintain the audience's attention due to their  rhythmic movemen.Narrative poetry are usually of human interest and include epics, or long stories.

*Dramatic

Dramatic poetry encompasses a highly emotional story that's written in verse and meant to be recited. It usually tells a story or refers to a specific situation. This would include closet drama, dramatic monologues, and rhyme verse.

 

3. Genres of Indonesian poetry are Old poem (around 1920s),Modern poem (from 1920s to present),Contemporary poem.

*Old poem (around 1920s)

The old poem can be found in various forms such as mantra, gurindam (poe), syair (bardic), pantun, bidal, pepatah (aphorism), and many more.

Example of old pantun

Membuat manisan dari buah salak

Dijual dengan macam-macam harga

Jadi anak berbaktilah pada ibu bapak

Agar kelak bisa masuk surga

*Modern poem (from 1920s to present)

Modern pem is divided into more specific categories such as balada (balad), ode, himne (hymn), romansa (romance), elegi (elegy). Epigram, distikon, satir (satire), sonata, and more. 

Example of Epigram 

Hari itu tak ada tempat berlari

Tak ada tempat bersembunyi

Tak ada memohon belas kasih

Semua sudah menyatu

Amal satu-satunya penolong

Amal satu-satunya cahaya

Merintih tiada berarti

Menyesal tiada berguna

Barulah sadar dunia yang fana

(memuat pengingat untuk beramal selagi masih hidup)

*Contemporary poem 

The contemporary poem does no longer speak of how great the language of the poet. But it stresses more on the typography structure, the use of foreign words, and sometimes even harsh words.

This type of poem is not bounded to the rules of old and modern poems but it has its own characteristic to differentiate from the rest of literature works. The characteristic includes selective choice of diction which caters deep meaning, portrayal, and symbolism.
